Where are Joomla extensions stored?

One of the benefits of using a content management system (CMS) such as Joomla is that it allows you to easily create and manage your own content. However, one of the downsides of using a CMS is that it can be difficult to find and install extensions.

Joomla extensions are stored in a directory called “extensions” on your Joomla server. This directory is usually located in the same folder as the Joomla executable file.

If you do not know where your Joomla executable file is located, you can find it by typing Joomla in your computer’s command prompt or terminal.

PRO TIP: Be cautious when installing Joomla extensions from unknown sources as they can store malicious code on your server which can compromise the security of your site. Always install extensions from trusted sources and check reviews before installing.

Once you have located your Joomla executable file, you can launch it by typing Joomla in your computer’s command prompt or terminal. Then, you can type the following command to open the extensions directory:

cd extensions

Once you are in the extensions directory, you can locate the extension you are looking for by typing the extension’s name in the directory’s search box. For example, if you are looking for the Joomla extension called “Contact form 7”, you would type contactform7 in the directory’s search box.

Once you have found the extension you are looking for, you can launch it by typing the extension’s name in the directory’s search box.
