What Are Photoshop Overlays?

Photoshop overlays are one of the most popular features in the software. They allow you to add an image on top of another, and then change the transparency, so that the two images blend together. This can be used to create a variety of effects, from simple shadows to more complex photo composites.

PRO TIP: Photoshop overlays are images that you can place over your own photos to create a new image. However, if you are not careful, you can end up with a picture that looks fake or overdone. Be sure to use Photoshop overlays sparingly and only when they will enhance your image.

There are a few different ways to create overlays in Photoshop. The most common is to use the “Layer” menu. First, open the two images that you want to use in Photoshop.

Then, select the top image and go to “Layer > New > Layer.” A new layer will appear in the “Layers” palette. Next, select the bottom image and go to “Edit > Copy.” Finally, go back to the top image and go to “Edit > Paste.” The bottom image will appear on top of the top image.

You can also change the transparency of the layer by going to “Layer > Layer Style > Blending Options.” The “Opacity” slider allows you to adjust how transparent the layer is. You can also experiment with different “Blend Modes” to get different effects.
