What Colour Profile Should I Use in Photoshop for Printing?

There are a few things to consider when choosing a color profile for your images in Photoshop. The first is the color space. There are three main choices: sRGB, Adobe RGB, and ProPhoto RGB.

sRGB is the smallest color space and is best suited for images that will be displayed on the web or emailed. Adobe RGB is a larger color space and is best suited for images that will be printed. ProPhoto RGB is the largest color space and is best suited for high-end photography prints.

The second thing to consider is the bit depth. This is the number of bits per channel (red, green, and blue).

The higher the bit depth, the more colors can be represented. Most monitors display at 8 bits per channel, while most printers print at 16 bits per channel. For this reason, it is best to work in 16 bits per channel when editing your images for print.

PRO TIP: When printing from Photoshop, it is important to choose the correct color profile for your printer. Otherwise, your colors may not print as expected.

The last thing to consider is the output device. This is usually your printer, but it could also be a proofer or RIP (Raster Image Processor). Each output device has its own color profile, so you will need to choose one that matches your output device.

So what color profile should you use in Photoshop for printing? If you are unsure, then the best bet is to go with ProPhoto RGB. This will give you the largest color space to work with and will ensure that all of your colors will print accurately.
