How Do You Make a Smart Object Editable in Photoshop?

Last updated on January 24, 2023 @ 6:27 pm

There are a few different ways that you can make a smart object editable in Photoshop. One way is to right-click on the layer that contains the smart object and select “Edit Contents” from the menu. This will open the smart object in a new Photoshop document.

You can then make your edits and save the document. The changes will be applied to the smart object in the original Photoshop document.

Another way to make a smart object editable is to double-click on the layer in the Layers panel.

PRO TIP: If you are not familiar with Photoshop’s “Smart Objects” feature, do not attempt to edit a Smart Object without first consulting a more experienced Photoshop user or the Photoshop documentation. Editing a Smart Object incorrectly can result in unexpected and undesirable changes to your image.

If you need to edit a smart object multiple times, you can create a Smart Object Action. To do this, go to Edit > Actions. Click on the “Create new action” icon and give your action a name.

Then, click on the “Record” button. Make your edits to the smart object and click “Stop Recording” when you’re done. The action will now be saved and can be applied to other smart objects.

Conclusion:

These are just a few of the ways that you can make a smart object editable in Photoshop. Experiment with different methods to see what works best for you and your workflow.
