How Do You Make a Starburst Effect in Photoshop?

Last updated on January 25, 2023 @ 4:18 pm

A starburst effect is a type of light effect that is commonly used in Photoshop to add drama or interest to a photo. The effect is created by adding a series of small, bright points of light around the edges of an object, usually a light source.

To create a starburst effect in Photoshop, you will need to use the Radial Blur tool. This tool can be found in the Blur section of the Filter menu.

First, open your image in Photoshop and make a copy of the background layer. Next, select the Radial Blur tool from the Blur section of the Filter menu.

In the Radial Blur dialog box, set the Amount to 100 and the Blur Method to Zoom. Click OK to apply the radial blur.

Now that you have applied the radial blur, you will need to create a new layer and fill it with black. To do this, go to Layer > New > Layer and click OK. Next, go to Edit > Fill and select Black from the drop-down menu. Click OK to fill the layer with black.

Finally, change the blending mode of the black layer to Screen. This will allow the light points of the radial blur to show through and create a starburst effect around your object. You can adjust the opacity of this layer to control how strong you want the effect to be.
