There are a number of different ways to access the Dodge tool in Photoshop, depending on which version of the software you are using. In Photoshop CS6 and earlier, the Dodge tool can be found under the ‘Edit’ menu, while in Photoshop CC (Creative Cloud) it is located under the ‘Image’ menu.

To use the Dodge tool, simply select it from the menu and then click and drag over the area you wish to lighten or darken. The strength of the effect can be controlled by adjusting the ‘exposure’ setting in the options bar. Higher values will produce a more pronounced effect, while lower values will produce a more subtle effect.

PRO TIP: This article is outdated and the Dodge tool has since been moved to the Tools panel in Photoshop.

The Dodge tool is a great way to add contrast to an image or to bring out details that might otherwise be lost in shadows. It can be used for both creative and practical purposes, so experiment with it and see what you can come up with!
