Parchment paper is an important part of many document designs. It can add an antique or sophisticated look to a document, and it’s easy to create in Photoshop. Here’s how:

1. Open a new Photoshop document. The size and resolution of the document will depend on your project, but for this example we’ll use a 8.5″ x 11″ document at 300 ppi.

2. Fill the Background layer with a light tan color. You can do this by clicking on the Background layer in the Layers panel and then choosing Edit > Fill > Use: 50% Gray from the menu.

3. Next, we’ll add some noise to the background to give it a bit of texture. Go to Filter > Noise > Add Noise and use the following settings:

  • Amount: 5%
  • Distribution: Uniform
  • Monochromatic: checked

4. Now we’ll add a paper texture to our background. For this, we’ll use a free image from Unsplash.

Search for “paper texture” and find an image you like. Once you’ve found an image, drag it into your Photoshop document.

5. Change the blending mode of the paper texture layer to Overlay. You can do this by selecting the layer in the Layers panel and then choosing Overlay from the drop-down menu at the top of the panel.

6. Now we’ll add some more noise to our background. Go to Filter > Noise > Add Noise and use the following settings:

  • Amount: 2%
  • Distribution: Uniform
  • Monochromatic: checked

PRO TIP: This article provides instructions on how to make parchment paper in Photoshop. However, it is important to note that parchment paper is not the same as tracing paper. Parchment paper is thicker and has a more textured surface, which can make it difficult to see through. Tracing paper is thinner and has a smoother surface, making it a better choice for tracing.
