Whether you’re creating an action scene or trying to add some flair to your photos, learning how to create explosions in Photoshop can be a very useful skill. There are a few different ways that you can create explosions, each with its own unique look. In this article, we’ll show you how to create explosions in Photoshop using three different methods.
The first method is the most simple and only requires a few clicks. First, create a new layer on top of your background layer.
Next, select the Brush Tool from the Toolbox, and choose a large, soft brush. Now, holding down the Shift key, click and drag your mouse across the canvas to create a line. The line doesn’t have to be perfectly straight, but it should be fairly long.
Once you’ve created the line, go to Edit > Transform > Warp. This will bring up the Warp Options dialog box.
In the dialog box, select the “Explode” option and click OK. This will cause the line to explode outward from the center point.
The second method is similar to the first, but it gives you a bit more control over the look of the explosion. Start by creating a new layer on top of your background layer.
Then, using the Brush Tool, draw a line like you did in the first method. However, this time don’t go to Edit > Transform > Warp. Instead, go to Edit > Transform > Liquify.
This will open the Liquify dialog box which gives you lots of different options for manipulating your line. To create an explosion effect, start by selecting the Forward Warp Tool from the left hand side.
Then, click and drag your mouse along the line you’ve drawn. The further you drag your mouse, the more pronounced the effect will be. You can also try using other tools in the Liquify dialog box to get different effects.
The third and final method is probably the most realistic way to create explosions in Photoshop. Start by opening an image of an explosion (you can find lots of free images online).
Create a new layer on top of your background layer and then drag your explosion image into this new layer. Next, go to Edit > Free Transform and resize your image so that it’s big enough to cover your entire canvas.
Now go to Edit > Puppet Warp. This will bring up the Puppet Warp Options dialog box.
In this dialog box, you’ll see a grid overlayed on top of your explosion image. To create an explosion effect, simply click and drag along any of the lines in this grid.
Creating explosions in Photoshop is easy with these three methods. Whether you want a simple or realistic explosion effect, there’s a method here that’s perfect for you. Just experiment with each one until you find something that looks good.
