Does Photoshop Elements Have Smart Objects?

Last updated on September 24, 2022 @ 11:58 am

Photoshop Elements is a great program for photo editing, but does it have smart objects? Smart objects are layers that contain image data from a separate file. This data is linked to the layer, so if you edit the smart object, the changes will be reflected in the layer.

Elements has some smart object features, but they’re not as robust as what you’ll find in Photoshop CC. For example, you can’t create a smart object from a layer in Elements. However, you can convert a layer to a smart object, which is useful if you want to edit the layer without affecting the rest of the image.

To convert a layer to a smart object in Elements, right-click on the layer and select “Convert to Smart Object.” This will create a new smart object layer that contains the image data from the original layer.

PRO TIP: Photoshop Elements does not have smart objects. Smart objects are a feature of Adobe Photoshop and allow you to create, edit, and scale images without losing quality. If you try to use smart objects in Photoshop Elements, you may experience unexpected results.

If you want to edit the smart object, double-click on it to open it in a new window. Make your changes and save the file. When you close the window, your changes will be applied to the smart object layer in Elements.

One downside of using smart objects in Elements is that they can’t be edited with the Quick Edit tool. You’ll need to use the full Edit mode to make changes to smart objects.

Overall, Photoshop Elements is a great program for photo editing, but it doesn’t have all of the features of Photoshop CC. If you need advanced features like smart objects, you’ll need to upgrade to Photoshop CC.
