How Do I Use the Magic Wand Tool in Photoshop CC?

Last updated on January 26, 2023 @ 8:28 am

The Magic Wand Tool in Photoshop CC is one of the most popular and versatile tools available. It can be used to select an area of an image based on color or brightness, and then apply an effect to just that area.

The tool can also be used to remove a background from an image, or to add a new background. Here’s a quick guide to using the Magic Wand Tool in Photoshop CC.

To select an area of an image based on color:

1. Open the image in Photoshop CC.

2. Click on the Magic Wand Tool in the toolbar on the left.

3. In the options bar at the top, choose whether you want to match colors or brightness levels. You can also choose how tolerant you want the selection to be.

4. Click on the area of the image that you want to select. The selection will expand outward from where you clicked, based on the tolerance setting.

5. To add to the selection, hold down the Shift key and click on additional areas. To remove areas from the selection, hold down the Alt key (Windows) or Option key (Mac) and click on those areas.

6. Once you have made your selection, you can apply an effect, or use it to create a mask.

PRO TIP: The Magic Wand tool in Photoshop CC can be a powerful tool for making quick selections in your image. However, it is important to use this tool with care, as it can easily select unwanted areas of your image if you are not careful. When using the Magic Wand tool, be sure to check the selection carefully before making any changes to your image, as you may not be able to undo your changes if you accidentally select something you did not mean to.
