How Do I Move Multiple Photos From Lightroom to Photoshop?

Last updated on September 24, 2022 @ 12:32 pm

There are a few different ways that you can move multiple photos from Lightroom to Photoshop, and the method that you use will depend on what you want to do with the photos in Photoshop. If you just want to open the photos in Photoshop so that you can edit them, then you can use the Lightroom Export function to export the photos as JPEGs or TIFFs and then open them in Photoshop.

If you want to create a composite image in Photoshop, then you need to use the Lightroom Edit In > Open as Layers in Photoshop function.

To export photos from Lightroom for editing in Photoshop, select the photos that you want to export in the Library module and then click File > Export. In the Export window, choose JPEG or TIFF as the File Format and make sure that the Color Space is set to sRGB. You can also choose to resize the photos when you export them by checking the Resize to Fit checkbox and choosing a width and height.

PRO TIP: When moving multiple photos from Lightroom to Photoshop, it is important to note that each photo will be placed on its own layer. This can result in a lot of clutter and make it difficult to work with the images. It is advisable to move only one photo at a time, or to use a layer mask to keep the images separate.

Once you have exported the photos, open Photoshop and click File > Open. Navigate to the folder where you exported the photos and select the ones that you want to open. The photos will open in separate layers, which is what we want if we are going to create a composite image.

If you just want to open the exported photos for editing, then click File > Open as Smart Objects. Navigate to the folder where you exported the photos and select them.

The photos will open in separate layers, but they will be smart objects, which means that they are linked back to Lightroom. Any changes that you make to the smart object layer will be reflected in Lightroom.

The bottom line:

There are a few different ways that you can move multiple photos from Lightroom to Photoshop, depending on what you want to do with them in Photoshop. If you just want to edit them, then you can use either the Export function or Open as Smart Objects function. If you want to create a composite image, then you need to use Open as Layers.
