Does Photoshop Have Focus Stacking?

Last updated on January 26, 2023 @ 2:15 pm

Yes, Photoshop has focus stacking. You can use it to create images with a shallow depth of field, or to increase the depth of field in your image.

Focus stacking is a technique that allows you to take multiple images of the same scene, each with a different focus point, and then combine them into a single image. The final image will have a greater depth of field than any of the individual images.

PRO TIP: While Photoshop is a powerful photo editing tool, it does not have focus stacking capabilities. This means that if you want to create a focus stacked image, you will need to use another program or online service.

To use focus stacking in Photoshop:

  1. Open Adobe Photoshop.
  2. Click on File, then Open. Navigate to the location of the image you want to edit, and click on it to select it.
  3. Click on the Layer menu, then click on New, and finally click on Layer Via Copy. This will create a new layer containing a copy of your image.
  4. Click on the new layer, and move it slightly to change the focus point.
You can do this by clicking on the layer and dragging it, or by using the arrow keys on your keyboard.
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until you have multiple layers, each with a different focus point. The number of layers you need will depend on the depth of field you want to achieve.
  6. Select all of the layers by holding down the Ctrl key (Windows) or the Cmd key (Mac) and clicking on each layer. Alternatively, you can click on the first layer, hold down the Shift key, and click on the last layer.
