How Do I Clear the Scratch Disk in Photoshop for Mac?

If your Mac is getting full, you can clear out some space by deleting the Photoshop scratch disk. The scratch disk is where Photoshop stores information while you’re working on a project.

Once you’re done with the project, the scratch disk can be cleared to free up space. Here’s how to do it:

First, open Photoshop and go to Preferences > Performance. In the “Memory & Image Cache” section, you’ll see a list of all the drives that are being used for the scratch disk.

By default, Photoshop will use your main drive for the scratch disk. If you have multiple drives, you can select which one you want to use.

PRO TIP: When clearing the scratch disk in Photoshop, be sure to first save all open files and close all applications. Next, go to the Photoshop preferences and click on the Performance tab. Under Memory Usage, click on the Purge button and then select All Memory & Disk Cache. Finally, restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

Next, click the “Empty Disk Cache” button. This will clear out the scratch disk and free up space on your hard drive.

You can also select how much memory Photoshop uses for the scratch disk. The higher the number, the more memory Photoshop will use.

However, this will also slow down your computer. If you’re having trouble with Photoshop running slowly, you can try reducing the amount of memory it uses for the scratch disk.
