Smart Guides are a feature in Photoshop that help you align elements in your design as you’re working on them. They’re especially helpful when you’re working with multiple layers and want to make sure everything is lined up correctly.
You can enable Smart Guides by going into the Preferences menu and checking the box next to “Enable Smart Guides. ”
1. Smart Guides will only appear when you have an object selected. If you don’t see any guides, make sure you have something selected.
2. Smart Guides are based on the edges of objects. If your object doesn’t have any clearly defined edges, the guides may not be very helpful.
3. Smart Guides can be turned off and on at any time by pressing the ‘U’ key on your keyboard.
4. If you’re finding the guides to be more hindrance than help, try adjusting the ‘Snap To’ setting in the Preferences menu.
Once you’ve enabled Smart Guides, you’ll see a few different things happen as you move your mouse around the canvas. First, when you hover over the edge of a layer, you’ll see a magenta line appear. This indicates that the layer is aligned with the one below it. You can also see this line when you hover over the corner of a layer.
Second, when you hover over the intersection of two or more layers, you’ll see a small circle appear. This indicates that the layers are aligned at that point. Finally, when you hover over an object, you’ll see its dimensions appear next to it. This can be helpful for making sure that your objects are the right size.
Smart Guides are a great way to keep your designs looking tidy and professional. They can save you a lot of time and frustration by helping you align elements quickly and easily. So if you haven’t already, be sure to enable Smart Guides in Photoshop!
