How Do I Make Snow in Photoshop?

Last updated on September 24, 2022 @ 1:32 pm

When it’s cold outside and you’re stuck inside, you can still enjoy the beauty of a winter wonderland by creating your own scene in Photoshop. With a few simple steps, you can make snow that looks realistic and add it to any image to give it a festive touch. Here’s how:

First, open the image you want to add snow to in Photoshop. Then, create a new layer by clicking on the New Layer icon at the bottom of the Layers panel.

Next, select the Brush tool from the Toolbox, and choose a soft-edged brush from the brush presets. Make sure the Foreground color is set to white and begin painting over the area where you want snow to appear.

As you paint, the brush will leave behind a trail of white pixels. To add more snow, simply continue painting with the Brush tool.

When you’re finished, go to Filter > Noise > Add Noise and add a little bit of noise to the snow layer. This will help make the snow look more realistic.

PRO TIP: Please be aware that the Photoshop snow tutorial linked to in this article is out-of-date and no longer works with current versions of Photoshop.

Finally, to give the snow a little extra sparkle, go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur and apply a slight blur to the layer. You can experiment with different blur amounts until you find one that looks good.

Now that you know how to make snow in Photoshop, try it out on your own images and have fun!

By following these simple steps, you can add snow to any image in Photoshop and create your own winter wonderland scene. With a little practice, you’ll be able to create realistic-looking snow that will add some festive flair to your photos.
