How Do You Fade a Brush in Photoshop?

Last updated on September 24, 2022 @ 1:37 pm

There are a few ways to fade a brush in Photoshop, but we’ll go over the most common one. With the Brush tool selected, go to the Options bar and click on the brush icon.

This will open up the Brushes panel. In the Brushes panel, find the icon that looks like a half-filled circle and click on it. This is the Transfer Mode icon.

In the Transfer Mode drop-down menu, select Linear Burn. This will make your brush appear darker. If you want to lighten the brush, select Screen from the Transfer Mode drop-down menu.

Now that you’ve selected your Transfer Mode, it’s time to adjust the Opacity of your brush. The Opacity is located just below the Transfer Mode drop-down menu. By default, it’s set to 100%.

To fade your brush, simply lower the Opacity. I usually start around 50% and go from there. But it really depends on how light or dark you want your brush to be.

Once you’re happy with your brush opacity, go ahead and start painting!
