In this tutorial, we’ll learn how to make a sun glow in Photoshop. We’ll start by creating a new document and adding a gradient background.
Then, we’ll create a sun shape using the Ellipse Tool. Next, we’ll add some layer styles to make the sun glow. Finally, we’ll add some text and apply some finishing touches.
To begin, open up Photoshop and create a new document. I’m going to make my document 1000×1000 pixels.
Once your document is created, go ahead and add a gradient background. You can do this by going to Layer > New Layer > Gradient Layer. Choose whatever colors you like for your gradient.
Next, we’re going to create a sun shape using the Ellipse Tool. Go ahead and select the Ellipse Tool from the Tools palette.
Then click and drag on your canvas to create a circle. Once you have your circle created, go ahead and add a layer style by clicking on the “fx” icon at the bottom of the Layers palette.
In the Layer Style dialog box, choose “Outer Glow” from the list of options. Make sure that the color of your Outer Glow is set to yellow.
You can also play around with the other settings to get the exact look that you want. I’m going to set my Opacity to 100%, my Size to 75 pixels, and my Spread to 10%.
Now we’re going to add some text. Go ahead and select the Type Tool from the Tools palette.
Then click on your canvas and type out whatever text you want. I’m just going to type “SUN.” Once you have your text added, go ahead and apply a layer style by clicking on the “fx” icon at the bottom of the Layers palette. You can also play around with the other settings to get the exact look that you want.
Finally, let’s add some finishing touches by adding a few more layer styles. Go ahead and select all of your layers by holding down the Shift key and clicking on each layer in turn. Then click on the “fx” icon at the bottom of the Layers palette.
In the Layer Style dialog box, choose “Drop Shadow” from the list of options. Set your Drop Shadow options however you like them. I’m going to set my Opacity to 50%, my Distance to 10 pixels, my Size to 10 pixels, and my Angle to 120 degrees.
Then choose “Inner Glow” from the list of options. Set your Inner Glow options however you like them. I’m going to set my Opacity to 50%, my Technique to Softer, my Source to Edge, my Choke to 25%, and my Size to 75 pixels.
