How Do You Animate Pixel Art in Photoshop?

Last updated on September 24, 2022 @ 2:57 pm

Pixel art is a form of digital art, where images are created and edited at the pixel level. Pixel art is usually created using a limited palette of colors, and the resulting image has a pixilated look.

Pixel art can be created using any raster graphics editor, but Photoshop is a popular choice for many pixel artists. In Photoshop, you can create pixel art by creating a new document with the desired dimensions, and then using the pencil tool to draw your pixels.

When animating pixel art in Photoshop, you will need to use the timeline feature. To create a new frame in the timeline, simply duplicate the existing layer.

Then, on the new layer, make your changes. For example, if you wanted to animate a character walking, you would create a new frame on the timeline for each step.

PRO TIP: This tutorial is outdated and no longer accurate. The techniques shown will not work in newer versions of Photoshop.

Once you have your frames set up, you can add animation by setting keyframes. To do this, simply click on the frame that you want to start animating from, and then click on the “add keyframe” button in the timeline.

Then, make your changes on the next frame, and add another keyframe. Repeat this process until you have your animation complete.

Finally, to export your animation as a GIF, go to File > Export > Save for Web (Legacy). In the settings panel that opens up, select GIF from the drop-down menu next to “Format.”

Then, under “Looping Options,” select “Forever.” Now simply click “Save” and choose where you want to save your file.

Pixel art is a great way to add some flair to your website or blog. By animating your pixel art in Photoshop, you can create simple animations that will add some interest and personality to your site.
