How Do You Subtract in Photoshop?

Last updated on January 25, 2023 @ 12:14 pm

When you want to subtract in Photoshop, there are a few different ways that you can go about doing it. You can either use the Subtract from Selection option in the Select menu, or you can use the Eraser tool.

If you want to use the Subtract from Selection option, first make a selection that you want to subtract from. Then, go to the Select menu and choose Subtract from Selection.

This will give you a new selection that is the inverse of your original selection.

If you want to use the Eraser tool, first make a selection that you want to subtract from. Then, choose the Eraser tool from the toolbar. In the options bar, make sure that the mode is set to Subtract. Then, just erase away the area that you want to remove from your selection.

PRO TIP: Please be aware that the Photoshop program is a very powerful tool and should be used with caution. When performing any subtractions in Photoshop, please be sure to use the ‘Undo’ function in case you make any mistakes.

Both of these methods will give you the same result – a new selection that is the inverse of your original selection. Which one you use is up to you!
