How Do I Apply a Filter in Photoshop?

Last updated on September 24, 2022 @ 3:25 pm

Applying a filter in Photoshop is a relatively simple process. There are two ways to do it: through the Filter Gallery or by going to Filter > Apply Filter.

If you want to use the Filter Gallery, simply open the image you want to apply the filter to and select Filter > Filter Gallery. From there, you can choose from a variety of different filter options. Once you’ve selected the filter you want, click “OK” to apply it.

PRO TIP: When applying a filter to an image in Photoshop, it is important to be aware of the potential for image degradation. Applying too many filters, or using filters with excessively high settings, can result in an image that looks overly processed and artificial. It is often best to use filters sparingly, and to experiment with different settings to find the perfect balance for your image.

If you know which specific filter you want to apply, you can go directly to Filter > Apply Filter. Again, select the image you want to apply the filter to and then choose the filter from the list. Click “OK” to apply the filter.

Both of these methods are relatively straightforward. Experiment with different filters to see which ones you like best.
