Why Can’t I Unlock Layer Photoshop?

Last updated on January 24, 2023 @ 12:24 pm

Layer locked Photoshop files are a common occurrence. The main reason why layer locked files happen is because the user didn’t save their work as a PSD.

When you try to open a layer locked file, you’ll see a message that says “This layer is locked. To edit it, first unlock the layer. ”

There are a few ways to unlock layers in Photoshop. The first way is to go to the Layer menu and select “Unlock All Layers.”

This will unlock all the layers in the document. Another way to unlock layers is to click on the lock icon next to the layer that you want to unlock. This will only unlock that one layer.

If you’re still having trouble unlocking layers, it’s likely because the file isn’t actually a PSD. To check if the file is a PSD, go to the File menu and select “Open.”

In the File Format drop-down menu, make sure “Photoshop” is selected. If it’s not, then the file isn’t a PSD and you won’t be able to unlock the layers.

PRO TIP: If you are having trouble unlocking a layer in Photoshop, there are a few things you can try. First, make sure that the layer is not set to “lock” in the layers palette. If it is, simply click on the lock icon to unlock it. If the layer is not locked, try setting the “Blend Mode” to “Normal” in the layers palette. You should also make sure that the layer is not set to “Clip to Layer Below”. If none of these options work, your best bet is to contact Adobe customer support for help.
