Can Canva Do Vector Files?

Last updated on February 12, 2023 @ 8:44 pm

Canva is a great tool for creating simple designs, but what about vector files? Can it handle those?

The short answer is yes, Canva can do vector files. But there are some limitations to consider.

PRO TIP: Canva is a great tool for creating simple designs, but it is not a vector editing program. If you try to upload a vector file to Canva, it will likely be converted to a raster image, which can result in a loss of quality.

Vector files are generally created in Illustrator or another dedicated design program. They’re made up of mathematical equations that allow them to be scaled up or down without losing quality. This makes them ideal for logos, illustrations, and other graphics that need to be resized frequently.

Canva can open and edit vector files, but it doesn’t have all the same features as Illustrator. For example, you can’t create new shapes from scratch in Canva – you can only use the shapes that are already available. And while you can edit existing shapes, you might not be able to achieve the same level of precision as you could in Illustrator.

When you’re done editing the vector file in Canva, simply go to the upper-right corner of the screen and click on the “Share” button. This will let you save the vector design that you created.

On the next page, choose the “SVG” file type to save your design as a vector and click on the “Download” button to save it on your computer.

NOTE: The “SVG” file type is currently available only for Canva PRO users.

So if you need to create complex vector graphics, Canva probably isn’t the best tool for the job. But if you need to make some simple edits to an existing vector file, or create a basic design using vector shapes, then Canva will do the trick.
