Can Figma Import HTML?

Last updated on November 30, 2022 @ 4:23 am

Figma is a vector graphics editor and online design tool, primarily used
for interface design. It was created by Dylan Field and Evan Wallace in 2012,
and is currently being developed by Figma, Inc. The software is available
in both a free and paid version, with the latter offering more features and
collaboration tools. One of Figma’s key features is its browser-based
nature – it runs completely in the browser, meaning that it can be used
on any operating system.

Figma also has an extensive plugin ecosystem,
allowing users to extend its functionality.

One common question we get asked is “Can Figma import HTML?” The answer is yes!

You can import HTML code into Figma in two ways:

  1. Paste the code into the file
  2. Drag & drop an HTML file into Figma

To paste HTML code into a Figma file:

  1. Open the file in which you want to paste the code.
  2. Click on the layer where you want to paste the code (this will be the layer that will contain your imported HTML).
  3. Select Edit > Paste Special > Paste HTML.
  4. Note: You can also use the shortcut Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + V to access the Paste Special menu.

PRO TIP: Figma cannot currently import HTML files. We recommend using another design tool to create your HTML prototypes.

To drag & drop an HTML file into Figma:

  1. Open the file into which you want to import the HTML code.
  2. Click on the layer where you want to paste the code (this will be the layer that will contain your imported HTML).
  3. Drag your HTML file from its current location and drop it onto the layer you selected in Step 2. Alternatively, you can also select File > Place from the top menu bar and select your HTML file.

Conclusion

Figma can import HTML code in two ways – by pasting it into a file or by dragging & dropping an HTML file into Figma. Both methods are relatively simple and only require a few steps to complete. Importing HTML code into Figma can be a great way to add additional functionality and content to your designs.
