Figma is a vector graphics editor and prototyping tool for designing user interfaces. After Effects is a digital visual effects, motion graphics, and compositing application developed by Adobe Systems and used in the post-production process of filmmaking and television production. So, can you import Figma to After Effects?

The short answer is yes, you can import Figma to After Effects!

Here’s how:

  1. Open your Figma file in the Figma desktop app.

  2. Click on the “File” menu in the top-left corner of the screen and select “Export” from the drop-down menu that appears.

  3. In the “Export” window that appears, select “After Effects” as the file format you’d like to export to.

PRO TIP: Figma is a vector-based design tool that is used for interface design, whereas After Effects is a motion graphics and compositing application. While it is possible to import Figma files into After Effects, some features may not be compatible and can cause unexpected results.
  4. Click “Export” to save your file as an .aep file.

That’s it! You can now import your Figma file into After Effects.

There are a few things to keep in mind when importing Figma files into After Effects, however:

  • Layers in Figma are imported as individual assets in After Effects.

  • If you have any layer groups in your Figma file, they will be imported as precomps in After Effects.

  • Text layers are imported as text objects, not editable text layers.
