Can I Move My Wix Site to GoDaddy?

Last updated on January 2, 2023 @ 6:58 pm

Wix is a popular website builder that allows users to create and design their own websites. While Wix is a great platform, there are some limitations to using it.

One such limitation is that you cannot move your Wix site to GoDaddy.

GREAT NEWS:

Exciting update! We've collaborated with Wix to offer WBI users with a free plan for all website creation needs - Explore the details here.

If you’re thinking about moving your Wix site to GoDaddy, you’re out of luck. Unfortunately, there is no way to transfer your Wix site to GoDaddy.

This is because Wix uses a proprietary platform that is not compatible with GoDaddy’s hosting platform. So, if you want to move your Wix site to GoDaddy, you’ll need to rebuild your site from scratch on GoDaddy’s platform.

While this may seem like a daunting task, it’s actually not that difficult. Simply follow these steps and you’ll have your GoDaddy site up and running in no time:

  1. Create a new account with GoDaddy. Sign up for a new account with GoDaddy. You can choose any plan that suits your needs.
  2. Choose your hosting plan. Select the hosting plan that you want to use for your new website. If you’re not sure which plan to choose, GoDaddy’s customer support team can help you select the right one.
  3. Install WordPress. Once you’ve chosen your hosting plan, you’ll need to install WordPress on your account. WordPress is a popular content management system (CMS) that makes it easy to create and manage your website. To install WordPress, simply log in to your GoDaddy account and click on the “Install WordPress” button.
  4. Choose a theme for your website. Once WordPress is installed, you’ll need to choose a theme for your website. There are thousands of free and paid themes available for WordPress, so take some time to browse through them and find the perfect one for your site. Once you’ve found a theme you like, simply install it on your WordPress site.
  5. Start creating content for your website. Now that you have WordPress installed and a theme chosen, it’s time to start creating content for your website. You can add pages, posts, images, and other media files to your site using the WordPress editor. Simply log in to your WordPress site and start adding content.

You cannot move your Wix site over to Go Daddy hosting/servers.

This means that if users want or need to switch their web host provider (for whatever reason), they will have start their website from scratch on the new host platform – they cannot simply transfer their Wix-based website over as-is.

PRO TIP: If you are considering moving your Wix site to GoDaddy, we recommend that you first reach out to Wix directly to inquire about the feasibility of this transition. Additionally, please be aware that there may be significant down-time for your website during the switchover process.

Why Can’t You Move Your Wix Site?

  • Wix uses an “all-inclusive” platform (meaning everything needed to create/manage a website is included within the Wix interface) – (there are no FTP details or access needed as with other web hosts).
  •  Wix websites (unlike those built on CMS platforms such as WordPress) are not “portable” – they cannot be moved/copied over as they rely on specific functionality provided by Wix servers (such as databases).
