Can I Open Fig File in Figma?

Last updated on September 28, 2022 @ 11:27 pm

As a vector-based design tool, Figma is great for working with illustrations, icons, and other graphics. But what about when you need to work with text?

Figma does have some basic text editing capabilities, but if you need to do anything more than simple edits, you’ll need to use a different program. That’s because Figma uses a different file format for text than it does for graphics. While you can open a Fig file in Figma, it won’t be able to edit the text.

There are a few ways to get around this. One is to convert the text to a graphic.

This can be done in Figma by selecting the text and choosing “Convert to Frame” from the right-click menu. Once the text is converted to a graphic, you can then use all of Figma’s vector editing tools on it.

PRO TIP: There is no guarantee that you will be able to open a Fig file in Figma. If you are able to open the file, it is possible that some of the data may be lost or corrupted.

Another way to work with text in Figma is to use an external program like Google Docs or Microsoft Word. You can then copy and paste the text into Figma as an image. This isn’t ideal, but it can be helpful in a pinch.

So, can you open a Fig file in Figma? Yes, but you won’t be able to edit the text inside of it.

While Figma is great for working with illustrations and other graphics, its text editing capabilities are limited. If you need to do anything more than simple edits, you’ll need to use a different program.

This is because Figma uses a different file format for text than it does for graphics.
