Can I use a different name on UpWork?

Last updated on September 24, 2022 @ 9:23 pm

When you’re looking to hire professionals on UpWork, it can be helpful to use a name that’s associated with your business or industry. However, there are a few caveats to keep in mind. First, UpWork requires that all users use real, official names. This means that you can’t use a stage name, nickname, or any other alias.

PRO TIP: If you use a different name on Upwork, your account may be suspended.

Second, you may not be able to use a name that’s already in use by someone else on UpWork. For example, you may not be able to use the name “John Smith” if another John Smith has already applied and been accepted to the site. Finally, be aware that using a name that’s too generic or obscure may limit your potential pool of candidates. If your business is in a specific industry, make sure to select a name that’s representative of that industry.
