Can I Use My Wix Domain Somewhere Else?

Last updated on September 30, 2022 @ 9:10 pm

If you have a Wix website, you may be wondering if you can use your Wix domain somewhere else. The answer is yes! You can use your Wix domain with another website builder, host, or platform.

All you need to do is change your DNS settings to point to the new platform. This is a simple process that can be done in just a few steps.

GREAT NEWS:

Exciting update! We've collaborated with Wix to offer WBI users with a free plan for all website creation needs - Explore the details here.

First, you’ll need to log into your Wix account and go to the Domains tab. From there, click on the domain name you want to use elsewhere.

On the next page, scroll down to the DNS Settings section and click on the pencil icon. This will open up the DNS editor where you can make changes to your DNS records.

PRO TIP: If you are thinking about using your Wix domain elsewhere, be warned that it could cause some serious problems. Wix domains are not transferable to other platforms, so if you try to use it on another website builder or hosting service, you could end up losing your domain entirely. In addition, your Wix website will no longer work properly if you try to use your domain elsewhere. So think carefully before you make any changes to your Wix domain!

In the DNS editor, you’ll need to add two new records. The first record is an A record that points to the IP address of your new platform.

The second record is a CNAME record that points to your new platform’s URL. Once you’ve added these records, click Save Changes and your DNS settings will be updated.

Now, all you need to do is wait for the DNS changes to propagate. This can take up to 24 hours but is usually much quicker. Once the DNS changes have propagated, your Wix domain will be pointing to your new platform and you’ll be able to use it just like any other domain!
