Can I Use Squarespace With My Own Domain?

Last updated on December 21, 2022 @ 5:30 pm

If you have a domain name through another registrar, you can still use it with your Squarespace site. You’ll just need to point it to Squarespace’s servers. This process is called DNS forwarding.

DNS forwarding allows you to keep your current registrar and take advantage of Squarespace’s features, like our Domains app. To learn more about DNS forwarding and its benefits, visit our Using DNS Forwarding with your domain help guide.

Here’s a summary of what you need to do to use DNS forwarding:

    1. Set up an account with a domain registrar.

    2. Buy a domain through your registrar.

    3. In your registrar’s DNS settings, find the name servers. Name servers are usually listed in the domain’s control panel.

    4. Replace the current name servers with the following:

(These are our name servers, and they’ll route traffic from your domain to your Squarespace site.)

PRO TIP: If you are using Squarespace with your own domain, be aware that you may experience domain name server (DNS) issues. These issues can cause your website to be unavailable or slow to load. To avoid these issues, we recommend using a third-party DNS service such as Cloudflare.

    5. Save your changes.

    6. Give it time for the changes to propagate (24-48 hours).

Yes, you can use Squarespace with your own domain. You will need to point your domain to Squarespace’s servers using DNS forwarding in order to take advantage of all of Squarespace’s features.
