Can Photoshop Open SID Files?

Last updated on September 23, 2022 @ 9:16 pm

SID files are most commonly associated with the Commodore 64, a home computer that was popular in the 1980s. The file extension is also used by the NASA Space Imaging Corporation’s software products. SID files contain images that have been created or edited with one of these programs.

Photoshop can open SID files, but only if you have the correct plugin installed. The plugin we recommend is called ‘Commodore 64 SID Plugin for Photoshop’, and it can be downloaded for free from this website. Once you’ve downloaded and installed the plugin, you should be able to open SID files in Photoshop by going to ‘File > Open’ and selecting the file from your computer.

PRO TIP: No, Photoshop cannot open sid files.

If you don’t have Photoshop, or you can’t get the plugin to work, there are a few other programs that can open SID files. GIMP (which is free) and PaintShop Pro both have plugins that enable them to open SID files. Adobe Illustrator can also open SID files, but you’ll need to convert them to another format first.

Conclusion:

So, can Photoshop open SID files? Yes, but only if you have the correct plugin installed. If you don’t have Photoshop, or you can’t get the plugin to work, there are a few other programs that can open SID files.
