Can UpWork Detect VPN?

Last updated on September 30, 2022 @ 10:30 am

There are many reasons why people use a Virtual Private Network (VPN) while working online. A VPN can mask your IP address and make it appear as though you are working from a different location, which can be useful if you want to access UpWork from a country where it is not available. Additionally, a VPN can encrypt your internet traffic, making it more difficult for others to spy on your online activity.

PRO TIP: If you are using a VPN to access Upwork, there is a risk that your account may be detected and suspended. Upwork may detect VPN use by looking at factors such as your IP address, browser type, and other account activity. If you are using a VPN, we recommend that you do not use it to access Upwork.

However, it is important to note that UpWork can detect when a VPN is being used. If you connect to UpWork using a VPN, you will see a message that says “We’ve detected unusual activity on your account” and asks you to verify your identity. This is because UpWork’s security system is designed to flag accounts that are using a VPN.

While there are some legitimate reasons for using a VPN while working on UpWork, it is important to be aware that your account may be flagged if you do so. If you are asked to verify your identity, be prepared to provide additional information to UpWork in order to prove that you are who you say you are.
