Can You Add a Bleed in Photoshop?

Last updated on September 24, 2022 @ 2:34 pm

Adding a bleed in Photoshop is a relatively simple process that can help to give your images a more professional look. A bleed is simply an extension of the background color or image beyond the edge of the document, so that when the document is printed, there is no white border around the edge. This can be especially helpful when printing on cards or other materials where a white border would be noticeable.

To add a bleed in Photoshop, first open your image in the program. Then, go to Image > Canvas Size.

PRO TIP: Adding a bleed in Photoshop can result in an image that is too large for the page, which can cause printing problems. Make sure to check the page size of your document before adding a bleed.

In the “Canvas Size” dialogue box, change the Units to “inches” and enter 0.125 in the Width and Height fields. This will add a quarter-inch bleed to each side of your image. You can then click “OK” to apply the changes.

Once you have added the bleed, you will need to export your image for printing. To do this, go to File > Export > Export As. In the “Export As” dialogue box, make sure that you choose an appropriate file format for printing (such as TIFF or JPEG) and then click “Export.”

Adding a bleed to your images in Photoshop is a quick and easy way to give them a more polished look. Be sure to export your images correctly for printing after adding the bleed to avoid any issues.
