There are many website builders out there, but Squarespace is one of the most popular. And for good reason – it’s user-friendly, has beautiful templates, and is relatively affordable.
But one thing Squarespace doesn’t have is a search function. This can be frustrating for users who have a lot of content on their site and want an easy way for visitors to find what they’re looking for.
Fortunately, there is a workaround. By installing Google Custom Search onto your Squarespace site, you can add a search bar and make it easier for visitors to find the content they’re looking for. Here’s how to do it:
First, you’ll need to create a Google Custom Search Engine. To do this, go to https://cse.google.com/cse/ and click “Create a custom search engine”.
Enter your website’s URL into the “Sites to search” field and give your search engine a name and description. Then click “Create”.
Once your search engine is created, click on the “Control Panel” tab and scroll down to the “Look and feel” section. Under “Layout”, select “Full width”. This will ensure that your search bar is visible on all devices (desktop, tablet, mobile).
Next, scroll down to the “Results layout” section and select “List”. This will give you more control over how your results are displayed.
Now that you’ve configured your search engine settings, it’s time to add the code to your Squarespace site. Go back to the control panel and click on the “Get code” button. Copy the code provided and paste it into the code injection box in Squarespace (Settings > Advanced > Code Injection).
And that’s it! You’ve now added a search function to your Squarespace site using Google Custom Search Engine.
