Can You Add Crop Marks in Photoshop?

Last updated on September 23, 2022 @ 10:35 pm

Crop marks, also known as trim marks, are those little lines that you see on the corners of a printed document. They show the printer where to cut the paper so that the final product is the correct size. You may have noticed them on business cards, flyers, or other documents that you have had printed.

Crop marks are generally added to a document in one of two ways: either by the design program that was used to create the document, or by the printing company that will be doing the printing. If you are creating a document in Photoshop that will be printed by a professional printing company, you will need to add crop marks to your document before sending it off to be printed.

Adding crop marks to a Photoshop document is a fairly simple process. First, open your document in Photoshop.

Next, go to File > Place > Smart Object. This will open a dialog box where you can select your crop mark file. Once you have selected your file, click Place.

Your crop mark file will now be placed into your Photoshop document as a smart object. To edit the placement of your crop marks, simply click and drag them into place.

When you are happy with their placement, go to File > Export > Export As and choose PDF from the dropdown menu. This will ensure that your crop marks are included when your document is printed.

So there you have it! Adding crop marks to a Photoshop document is quick and easy. Just remember to export as a PDF when you’re finished so that your crop marks are included in the final print job.

PRO TIP: Crop marks are used to indicate where a page should be cut. They are generally only used when printing a document, and should not be added in Photoshop. Adding crop marks in Photoshop can result in the document being printed incorrectly, and can cause issues when trying to print the document later on.

Most people don’t realize how important crop marks are until they go to print their documents and find out that their printer doesn’t know where to cut the paper! Crop marks are an essential part of any print job, so if you’re creating a document in Photoshop that will be printed by someone else, make sure to add them before sending it off.
