Shopify is one of the most popular eCommerce platforms on the market. And for good reason!

It’s user-friendly, has tons of features, and is relatively affordable. Plus, did we mention that it’s used by some pretty big names, like Tesla and Red Bull?

One feature that sets Shopify apart from other platforms is its ability to be customized. You can really make your store stand out from the competition by taking advantage of Shopify’s customization options.

In this article, we’re going to show you how to customize checkout on Shopify. We’ll cover everything from changing the layout to adding custom fields. By the end, you’ll have a beautiful, unique checkout process that’s tailored to your brand.

Why Customize Checkout?

Before we dive into the how-to, let’s take a step back and look at why you might want to customize checkout in the first place. There are a few reasons:

  • It builds trust. A well-designed checkout page instills confidence in your customers. They can see that you have a professional operation and that you care about the details. This helps them feel good about giving you their money.
  • It can increase conversion rates. By streamlining the checkout process and making it as user-friendly as possible, you can encourage more visitors to complete their purchase. Every little bit helps!
  • It allows you to upsell and cross-sell. If done right, customizing your checkout page can give you an opportunity to upsell related products or cross-sell complementary items. For example, if someone is buying a dress, you could suggest they add a pair of earrings to their order.

How to Customize Checkout on Shopify

Change the Layout

Shopify’s default checkout page has three steps: shipping information, delivery method, and payment information. But did you know that you can change the layout?

PRO TIP: Customizing your checkout on Shopify can be a great way to improve your customer’s experience and increase conversions. However, it is important to be aware that there are some limitations to what you can do. For example, you cannot change the layout or colors of the checkout pages, and you are also limited in the types of payment methods that you can offer. If you are not careful, you may end up with a less than optimal checkout experience for your customers.

?

If you go to “Online Store > Preferences”, you’ll see an option for “Checkout Layout.” You can choose from three different layouts:

  • “Single Page Checkout”: All of the steps are on one page. This is the quickest and easiest way to complete checkout.
  • >“Multi Page Checkout with Sidebar”: The steps are divided into multiple pages, but there’s also a sidebar with order summary information. This is a good option if you want to provide more guidance for your customers.
  • “Multi Page Checkout without Sidebar”: The steps are divided into multiple pages, but there is no sidebar with order summary information. This option gives you more control over the design of your checkout page.

Once you select your desired layout, be sure to click “Save” at the bottom of the page.
