Can You Edit Metadata in Photoshop?

Last updated on September 23, 2022 @ 11:09 pm

If you’re a photographer, chances are you’re familiar with the term “metadata.” Metadata is information about an image file that’s embedded in the file itself. This information can include things like the date and time the photo was taken, the camera model and exposure settings, and even the GPS coordinates of where the photo was taken.

While most of this information is added automatically by your camera, there is some metadata that you may want to edit manually. For example, you may want to change the date and time a photo was taken, or add keywords to help with organization and searchability.

Fortunately, Photoshop makes it easy to edit metadata. In this article, we’ll show you how to edit metadata in Photoshop CC.

PRO TIP: When editing metadata in Photoshop, be aware that some fields may be read-only. In particular, the fields that are populated by information from the file’s EXIF data (e.g., date and time, camera make and model, etc.) cannot be edited. Attempting to do so may result in an error message.

To edit metadata in Photoshop, open an image file and select File > File Info from the menu bar. This will open the File Info dialog box. From here, you can edit all sorts of metadata, including the description, author name, copyright information, and more.

You can also add keywords to an image by selecting Keywords from the left sidebar and then clicking the “+” icon. Type in a keyword and hit Enter to add it. Repeat this process for each keyword you want to add.

Once you’re finished editing metadata, click OK to save your changes. Your new metadata will be embedded in the image file itself, so it will be viewable in other software applications that support reading metadata.

So there you have it! Now you know how to editmetadata in Photoshop CC.
