Can You Open Figma Files With Sketch?

As a designer, you’re always on the lookout for new tools to help you work more efficiently. Figma is a popular design tool that many designers use, but what if you’re a Sketch user? Can you open Figma files in Sketch?

The short answer is yes, but there are a few things to keep in mind. First of all, Sketch only supports importing .fig files, so if your Figma file is saved as a .figm file, you’ll need to export it as a .fig file first.

Secondly, Sketch can only import certain types of assets from Figma – specifically, vector shapes, text, and images. So if your Figma file contains complex animations or other types of assets, they won’t be imported into Sketch.

That being said, importing Figma files into Sketch can be a great way to quickly get started on a new project or to bring an existing project into Sketch. And since both tools are vector-based, you won’t lose any quality when importing assets from Figma.

PRO TIP: If you are not careful, you may end up losing data or ruining the file format when you try to open a Figma file with Sketch.

To import a Figma file into Sketch:

  1. Open the Figma file you want to import in your browser
  2. Click the “File” menu in the top-left corner and select “Export..”
  3. In the “Export” dialog that appears, make sure “Sketch” is selected as the format and click “Export”
  4. Open the Sketch file you want to import the Figma assets into
  5. Click the “File” menu in the top-left corner and select “Import.”
  6. In the “Import” dialog that appears, select the .fig file you exported from Figma and click “Open”

That’s it! The assets from your Figma file will now be imported into Sketch.
