Can You Redirect a Wix Domain?

Last updated on October 1, 2022 @ 9:24 am

If you have a Wix website, you may be wondering if you can redirect your domain. The answer is yes, you can redirect your Wix domain.

There are a few different ways to do this, and we’ll go over all of them.

GREAT NEWS:

Exciting update! We've collaborated with Wix to offer WBI users with a free plan for all website creation needs - Explore the details here.

First, let’s talk about what a domain redirect is. A domain redirect is when you change the URL that someone types into their browser to reach your website.

For example, if your website is www.example.com and you want to redirect it to www.net, you would set up a domain redirect. This is useful if you want to change your website’s address or if you want to consolidate multiple domains into one.

There are a few different types of domain redirects, and we’ll go over each one. The first type is a 301 redirect. This is the most common type of redirect and it’s also the most permanent. A 301 redirect tells the browser that the page has been moved permanently and it will update the URL in the browser’s address bar.

The second type of redirect is a 302 redirect. This type of redirect is temporary and it tells the browser that the page has been moved temporarily. The third type of domain redirect is called a meta refresh.

PRO TIP: If you are planning to redirect a Wix domain, please be aware that there are certain risks involved. First and foremost, please be aware that Wix is a third-party platform and as such, we cannot guarantee that your domain will be successfully redirected. In addition, please be aware that your Wix website may experience down time or other disruptions during the redirect process. Finally, please note that redirecting a Wix domain may result in the loss of any search engine rankings or traffic that you have built up for your website.

A meta refresh is when the page itself refreshes and shows the new URL. This type of redirect is not as common because it’s not as user-friendly as the other two types of redirects. Now that we’ve gone over the different types of domain redirects, let’s talk about how to set them up.

The first way to set up a domain redirect is through your DNS provider. If you’re not sure who your DNS provider is, you can contact your hosting company or check your DNS settings in your control panel. Once you know who your DNS provider is, you need to login to their control panel and look for an option called “DNS Management” or “Zone File Editor”.

Once you find this option, you need to add what’s called an “A record”. An A record points your domain name to an IP address, which is where your website is hosted. To add an A record, you need to enter in your domain name, select “A Record” from the drop-down menu, and then enter in your IP address.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, yes – you can redirected a Wix Domain – there are mutliple ways to do so, each with their own benefits depending on what exactly you’re looking for in terms of permanence and user-friendliness.
