As the world’s largest domain name registrar, GoDaddy is a popular choice for website hosting. However, many users build their websites using Wix, which offers its own hosting services. Can you transfer a Wix website to GoDaddy?
The answer is yes, but it’s not as simple as transferring a domain name.
Exciting update! We've collaborated with Wix to offer WBI users with a free plan for all website creation needs - Explore the details here.
When you transfer a domain name, you are simply changing the registrar; the DNS records point to the same web server and hosting account. When you transfer a website from Wix to GoDaddy (or any other host), you need to export your Wix site, create a new hosting account with GoDaddy (or your chosen host), and then import your Wix site into the new account.
Wix makes it easy to export your site.
1. Just go to My Sites and click on Manage Site.
2. Under Site Tools, click on Export Site.
3. You will be given the option to export your site as an HTML file or as a ZIP file.
4. Choose the HTML option and click Export.
Now, create a new hosting account with GoDaddy (or your chosen host). Once your account is set up, you will need to import your Wix site.
Importing Your Wix Site into GoDaddy
1. Log in to your GoDaddy account and go to My Products.
2. Under Web Hosting, select Launch.
3. Select the domain you want to use with your website, then click Next.
4. On the next page, you will have the option to choose between installing a new website or importing an existing one. Select the option to import an existing website.
5. You will then be prompted to enter the URL of your Wix site. Enter the URL and click Next.
6. GoDaddy will then begin the process of importing your Wix site. This may take a few minutes to complete.
7. Once the import is complete, you will see a preview of your imported website. You can then customize and make any necessary changes to your site.
8. When you are satisfied with your changes, click the Publish button to make your website live.
