Can You Vectorize in Figma?

There’s no denying that vector illustrations look amazing. They can be used for everything from logos and icons to illustrations and infographics.

But what if you want to create a vector illustration in Figma? Is it possible?

The short answer is yes, you can vectorize in Figma. The longer answer is that it depends on how you want to vectorize your illustration. Figma offers two different ways to vectorize: using the Vector tool or converting bitmaps to vectors.

If you’re starting with a bitmap image, you can use the Vector tool to trace over it and create a vector shape. This is a great way to create an accurate vector version of an existing image. You can also use the Vector tool to draw your own shapes from scratch.

PRO TIP: Figma is a great design tool, but it’s important to know its limitations. One of those is that Figma doesn’t have a built-in way to vectorize images. That means if you want to use an image in your design, you’ll need to either find a vector version of that image or create one yourself.

Alternatively, you can convert a bitmap image into a vector graphic. This is useful if you want to preserve the quality of an image but don’t need or want the extra detail that comes with creating a full vector version. To convert a bitmap to a vector, simply select the image and click ‘Convert to Vector’ in the toolbar.

Both methods have their own advantages and disadvantages, so it’s worth experimenting with both to see which one works best for your needs. Whichever method you choose, Figma makes it easy to create beautiful vector illustrations.
