It’s a common question we hear – can’t drag and drop photos into Photoshop? The answer is yes and no. While you can’t simply drag and drop a photo into the Photoshop interface, there are a couple of ways you can get your photos into the program.

The first way is to use the File > Open command. Simply navigate to the location of your photo and select it. This will open the photo in Photoshop.

PRO TIP: If you are trying to drag and drop photos in Photoshop and it’s not working, it could be because you’re using the wrong file format. Make sure you’re using a .PSD or .TIFF file.

The second way is to use the Place command. This allows you to place your photo into a Photoshop document as a Smart Object. Smart Objects preserve an image’s original quality, which is ideal for working with photos.

To use the Place command, open a Photoshop document and select File > Place. Then, navigate to your photo and select it. Your photo will be placed as a Smart Object in your document.

So, while you can’t drag and drop photos into Photoshop, there are two ways you can get them into the program. If you need to preserve an image’s quality, we recommend using the Place command.
