Do I Need Wix Premium to Connect Domain?

Last updated on October 1, 2022 @ 5:08 am

If you’re using Wix to create a website, you may be wondering whether you need to upgrade to Wix Premium in order to connect your own domain. The answer is no – you can connect your domain for free, without upgrading to Premium. However, there are a few things to keep in mind when doing so.

When you connect your domain, Wix will give you two DNS records to add to your domain’s DNS settings. These records will point your domain to Wix’s servers, and tell visitors where to find your website.

GREAT NEWS:

Exciting update! We've collaborated with Wix to offer WBI users with a free plan for all website creation needs - Explore the details here.

In order for these records to work properly, you’ll need to make sure that your domain’s nameservers are set to Wix’s nameservers. If you’re not sure how to do this, don’t worry – Wix will provide instructions on how to change your nameservers when you add your domain.

PRO TIP: If you are using the free version of Wix, you will not be able to connect a custom domain. You must upgrade to a premium plan in order to connect a domain.

Once your domain is connected and pointing to Wix’s servers, you’ll be able to use it with any of Wix’s plans – including the free plan.

However, there are a few limitations to keep in mind.

First of all, if you’re using the free plan, your domain will include Wix branding (e.g. “.wixsite.com”). You can remove this branding by upgrading to one of Wix’s paid plans.

Secondly, the free plan only allows you to connect one domain. If you want to connect multiple domains (e.com” and “.net”), you’ll need to upgrade to Premium.

Conclusion:
You can connect your own domain name for free on Wix, without having Premium; however, if you want certain features like removing Wix branding or connecting multiple domains, then you’ll need Premium.
