Do I Own My Design on Canva?

Last updated on September 27, 2022 @ 6:27 pm

As a relatively new platform, Canva has a lot of ground to cover in terms of ownership and copyright. For example, when you create a design on Canva, who owns the copyright?

The answer to this question is not as clear cut as you might think. Canva does have a Terms of Use agreement that you must agree to in order to use the platform.

In this agreement, Canva states that they own all of the “content,” which includes designs, images, and text. However, they also state that you own the “content” that you create. So, who really owns the design?

PRO TIP: If you create a design on Canva, you do not own the design. Canva owns the design and can sell or distribute the design without your permission. If you want to own the design, you must purchase the design from Canva.

The answer seems to be a little bit of both. Canva owns the design, but you own the content.

This means that if you were to take your design and put it on another platform, such as Facebook or your own website, you would not be in violation of any copyright laws. However, if you were to take someone else’s design from Canva and put it on your website, you would be in violation of copyright law.

So, what does this mean for you? If you want to use a design from Canva on your website or blog, you can do so without worry. However, if you want to use someone else’s design, be sure to get their permission first.

In conclusion, while Canva may own the design, users own the content within the design. This means that users are free to use their designs on other platforms as long as they do not violate any copyright laws.
