Do I Own My Domain With Wix?

Last updated on September 30, 2022 @ 8:51 pm

When you create a website with Wix, you can choose from over 500 domain names. This gives you the freedom to find the perfect name for your website. You can also use your own domain name with Wix, as long as it is registered with a third-party provider.

To do this, you will need to connect your domain to your Wix account. Once your domain is connected, you can start building your website.

GREAT NEWS:

Exciting update! We've collaborated with Wix to offer WBI users with a free plan for all website creation needs - Explore the details here.

If you register a domain with Wix, you will be the owner of that domain. You can do this by going to the Domain tab in your Wix account and clicking on Register a New Domain. From there, you will be able to search for and register a new domain. Remember, you will need to renew your domain every year in order to keep it active.

PRO TIP: If you use Wix to create your website, you may not actually own your domain. Wix may claim ownership of your domain, which means you could lose control of your website. Be sure to read the terms and conditions carefully before using Wix, or any other website builder.

You can also transfer an existing domain to Wix. To do this, you will need to first unlock your domain and get an authorization code from your current registrar.

Once you have the authorization code, you can go to the Domain tab in your Wix account and click on Transfer Domain. From there, you will be able to enter the authorization code and start the transfer process. Please note that it can take up to 48 hours for the transfer to complete.

No matter how you choose to get your domain, Wix gives you full control over it. This means that you can set up custom DNS records, use Google Apps for Work with your own domain, and much more. You will also be able to manage all of your domains in one place – your Wix account.

Conclusion: You own your domain as long as it is registered through Wix, whether that be through registering it yourself or transferring an existing one over. You have full control over what DNS records are set up and can use Google Apps for Work if needed.
