If you’re starting a new website on Squarespace, you can either buy a new domain name through us or transfer an existing one. If you choose to buy a new domain name, we’ll automatically set it up for you during the signup process. If you want to use an existing domain name, you can begin the transfer process after signup by following these instructions.
How to Transfer Your Domain to Squarespace
Before transferring your domain, we recommend verifying that it’s unlocked and has been registered for at least 60 days. These requirements help ensure a successful transfer.
To check if your domain is unlocked:
- Go to the website of your current registrar and log in.
- Find the page where you manage your domain’s settings.
- Look for a lock icon or similar indicator next to your domain name. If it’s locked, contact your registrar for help unlocking it.
To check how long your domain has been registered:
- Again, log in to your current registrar’s website.
- Look for information about when your domain was created or last renewed. If it was created or renewed less than 60 days ago, we recommend waiting before transferring it.
