Does Mutual Cancellation Affect Fiverr?

Last updated on September 29, 2022 @ 1:28 am

As a freelancer, have you ever had a client cancel a project on you? It’s happened to all of us at one point or another.

And it usually sucks.

Getting cancelled on sucks, but it’s especially sucky when it happens on Fiverr. That’s because when a client cancels a project on Fiverr, they don’t just lose the gig – they also lose the money they’ve already paid for it.

PRO TIP: If you are thinking about cancelling your Fiverr account, be aware that this may have an effect on your account balance. If you have any outstanding payments owed to you, these may be cancelled as well.

This is because of Fiverr’s “mutual cancellation” policy, which states that if either the freelancer or the client cancels a gig, the other party will automatically get their money refunded.

It’s a policy that’s meant to protect both parties, but in practice, it often ends up penalizing the freelancer. That’s because clients can (and do) cancel gigs on Fiverr with impunity, knowing that they’ll get their money back regardless.

This leaves freelancers out of pocket and without any recourse.
