Does Shopify Automatically Send Order Confirmation Emails?

Last updated on October 1, 2022 @ 2:03 pm

When a customer places an order on your Shopify store, Shopify automatically sends them an email to confirm their purchase. This email includes the order details and shipping information, and is a great way to keep your customers informed about the status of their order.

However, you may want to change the default behavior and disable automatic order confirmation emails. For example, if you’re using a third-party fulfillment service, you may not need to send these emails yourself. Or, if you’re running a special promotion or sale, you may want to send a different confirmation email that includes additional information or coupons.

Whatever the reason, disabling automatic order confirmation emails is easy to do. Just follow these steps:

PRO TIP: If you are using Shopify to sell products online, it is important to be aware that Shopify does not automatically send order confirmation emails. You will need to set up your own email system to send these types of messages to your customers.

1. Log in to your Shopify admin and go to Settings > Notifications.

2. In the Order notifications section, find the Order confirmation email and click Disable.

3. Save your changes.

Now, when a customer places an order on your store, they will not receive an email confirmation from Shopify. If you ever want to re-enable automatic order confirmation emails, just follow the same steps and click Enable instead of Disable in step 2.
