Does Shopify Hold Inventory?

Last updated on October 1, 2022 @ 3:18 pm

It’s no secret that Shopify is one of the most popular ecommerce platforms on the market. And for good reason!

Shopify is easy to use, has tons of features, and is very affordable. But one question that we often get asked is “Does Shopify hold inventory?”

The answer is yes..and no. It all depends on which Shopify plan you’re using.

With the Basic Shopify plan, you will need to manage your own inventory. This means that you will need to keep track of your products, orders, and stock levels yourself. This can be a bit of a hassle, but it’s doable if you’re organized and have a good system in place.

PRO TIP: If you are considering using Shopify to sell your products, you should be aware that Shopify does not hold inventory for you. This means that if you sell a product on Shopify, you will need to have that product in stock and be able to ship it to your customer. This can be a difficult and expensive proposition if you are not well-organized and have a good system for keeping track of your inventory.

If you upgrade to the Shopify plan or higher, however, Shopify will take care of your inventory for you. This is a huge time saver and can really help streamline your business.

With this plan, Shopify will track your stock levels and send you notifications when they get low. They’ll also automatically fulfill orders for you and send your customers tracking information. Basically, it takes a lot of the hassle out of running an online store!

So which plan should you choose? If you’re just starting out and are on a tight budget, the Basic plan may be a good option for you.

But if you can afford it, we recommend upgrading to at least the Shopify plan so that you can take advantage of inventory management features. Trust us, it’s worth it!
