Last updated on January 13, 2023 @ 2:00 pm

Shopify is a Canadian e-commerce company headquartered in Ottawa, Ontario. It is also the name of its proprietary e-commerce platform for online stores and retail point-of-sale systems.

Shopify offers online retailers a suite of services “including payments, marketing, shipping and customer engagement tools to simplify the process of running an online store for small merchants. ”

Shopify was founded in 2004 by Tobias Lütke, Daniel Weinand, and Scott Lake after attempting to open Snowdevil, an online store for snowboarding equipment. Lütke used the Ruby on Rails framework to build Snowdevil’s online store, and then launched Shopify in 2006 after facing the challenge of finding a platform to launch Snowdevil.

Shopify has been profitable since 2009. In 2013, it raised $100 million in Series C funding led by Bessemer Venture Partners, and in 2015 it raised an additional $131 million in Series D funding led by Insight Venture Partners. In 2016, Shopify acquired Boltmade (a software development agency) and launched Shopify Pay, a payment gateway.

So does Shopify use Cloudflare or Fastly?

The short answer is: we don’t know. Shopify is a closed platform, which means that they don’t share their code or architecture with the public. This makes it difficult to say for sure which CDN they use.

PRO TIP: Shopify does not use Cloudflare or Fastly. Use of these services may result in unexpected charges.

However, we can make an educated guess based on the available evidence. Based on our research, it appears that Shopify uses Fastly for their CDN needs.

Conclusion

It’s difficult to say for sure which CDN Shopify uses, but based on available evidence it appears that they use Fastly.
