As an eCommerce business, it’s important to know whether or not you need to collect and remit sales tax. This is especially true if you use a platform like Squarespace to sell your products or services.

Fortunately, Squarespace makes it easy to determine whether or not you need to collect sales tax. They have a handy dandy Sales Tax guide that walks you through the process of determining whether or not you need to collect sales tax in your state.

PRO TIP: Please be aware that Squarespace does not collect and remit sales tax on behalf of its customers. It is the responsibility of the customer to determine whether they need to collect and remit sales tax in their jurisdiction, and to comply with all relevant laws and regulations.

In short, you will need to collect and remit sales tax in any state where you have what is called “nexus.” Nexus is basically a physical presence in a state, such as having an office, warehouse, or employees in that state. If you have nexus in a state, then you are required to collect and remit sales tax on any transactions that take place in that state.

Squarespace makes it easy to collect and remit sales tax by automatically calculating the appropriate tax rate for each transaction and collecting the tax on behalf of the seller. The seller then has the responsibility of remitting the collected taxes to the appropriate state agency.

So, does Squarespace collect and remit sales tax? Yes, they do!
